June 16, 2022 Edition
It’s been a minute since I’ve wrote a guest blog…..I had no idea how busy I would get with the tax season and here I am in June 2022 writing them again!! I really enjoy interviewing with people that I have networked with in the past & get to know their true passion of their business model. Every year that passes with having my own business, there are different things I do for myself and the business. 2022 will be a “scaling & growing” year, for sure! I have been a solopreneur for over 3 years now and this year, I feel like I am ready to add on a team member. But before I take the plunge in hiring someone, I thought knowing my own personality & traits would be ideal. I reached out to Diane Caine of LinkRI, a few months ago to take a DISC Personality Profile Assessment on myself. A DISC Assessment teaches you a lot about yourself – DISC stands for Dominant, Influencing, Steady, Compliant. I learned that I scored really high for S, I and C which doesn’t surprise me and the detailed report I received was really mind-blowing. My style is identified as an “Advocate”. It was really interesting to learn more about myself.
This month, I wanted to introduce you all to a dear friend, colleague & past client who is the CEO, Founder of LinkRI, Diane Caine. Diane is a highly sought-after human behavior and leadership consultant. She brings two decades of leading teams in a global environment for Fortune 100 companies. She expanded her expertise when she joined the Maxwell Leadership team, gaining her executive level certification in the Maxwell Method of Leadership. Let’s get started with the interview:
Why did you pick this trade in particular? Click on the link below to view Diane’s answer.
What are the top three reasons why a business owner should invest in your service/product?
- Increased employee engagement – when teams understand their uniqueness and the value it adds to the team, engagement and retention increase.
- Productivity – investing in developing the strengths of the team and improving their communication skills, contributes to increased productivity and enhanced collaboration
- Profitability – teams who are invested in personally and professionally feel valued and stay longer, decreasing the cost of recruiting and the lost productivity while training new employees
How much time do you devote to professional development/learning each month?
Wow, you have me adding up the time. I would say I average 10 – 15 hours a month. Some of that is time is participating in a mastermind group with my coach. Then a combination of reading and listening to podcasts which I do daily.
What is the craziest thing you have done?
Some people will say it was when I was standing on the corner of a racetrack. While in college I traveled with my late fiancé to sports car races where we would be safety workers stationed at various locations on the racetrack. Our job was to warn drivers of hazards that were ahead on the track or if there was a faster car coming up on them, to avoid collisions. This put us right in the thick of it when a driver lost control of their car and would literally end up at our feet.
I had a very close call with Paul Newman at Limerock Park Raceway in Connecticut. He lost control of his car and hit the tire wall that I was standing on. I was positioned with my back toward oncoming traffic because I was on yellow flag duty – if I saw something happening up track it was my job to use the yellow flag to slow down the drivers. Luckily my fiancé and the blue flag person both had their eyes to oncoming traffic, saw my impending danger, grabbed me under my arms and literally carried me out of harms way as a loose tire and debris from the impact was flying by our heads. No one was hurt but the car, and Paul’s pride 😊
Do you have any pet peeves?
Yes, only a couple:
- Bring your shopping cart to the cart corral don’t leave it in parking lot to block a space or hit someone’s car
- Having a server say “no problem” or “no worries” when I thank them for the help. Could you please simply say “You’re welcome” or “My pleasure”
- Not changing the empty toilet paper roll!
